Glendale, AZ

From the first inning to the last out the boys played inspired baseball. The Mud Hens ran the table at the Super Series 13U National Event at Victory Lane Sports Complex in Glendale, Arizona. The Mud Hens outscored their opponents 56-9 beating some of the top teams in the State.

The Mud Hens played the Rio Rico Toro’s on Saturday night 9-1. The Sunday games saw the Hens beating the Ahwatukee Cardinals 10-1 in the first game and then in the afternoon beating the Desert Firebirds 6-4. The Mud Hens finished Pool Play 3-0 and captured the #1 Seed.

The first game Monday was against the Toro’s and in which the Mud Hen cruised to a 12-0 victory in 4 innings. The second game of the day which was a Semi Final match saw a very inspired and motivated Mud Hens Team beat the Arizona Heat 12-2 in four innings. The turning point in this contest was in the bottom of the 2nd when the Mud Hens exploded and pushed across 9 runs with two out.

The Championship featured two Scottsdale based teams and pitted the Mud Hens against the Desert Firebirds. The Firebirds quickly came out and took a one run lead in the top half of the 1st Inning only to have the Mud Hens answer the call to take a 2-1 lead in their half. The Mud Hens eventually went on to win 7-1 to capture the crown and their berth in the Super Series Winter Nationals next month here in Phoenix.

“I was very proud of the boys and how focused they were all weekend long. We ran the bases aggressively, got down several well placed bunts, played solid defense and hit in streaks. It was a lot of fun to watch the boys play so well”, says Ted Schuman, Manager.
