The Mud Hens played their best baseball of the year this weekend in Southern California while beating some of the top ranked teams in the USSSA Major Division National Invitational Tournament.
The came out firing on all 8 cylinders and never looked back from the opening game. Their first opponent was the South Bay Stallions and the Mud Hens were on fire from the top half of the first as the offense came out and scored frequently to take a 4-0 lead and ended up run ruling the Stallions 9-0.
The second game was against the Daredevils and another solid performance from the pitchers and offense gave the Mud Hens their 2nd consecutive shutout with a final score of 8-0.
The 3rd game was against the top ranked Placentia Mustangs and this game was clearly the most exciting of the tournament and perhaps the year. The Mud Hens dug a hole quickly with our first defensive errors of the tournament and found themselves chasing a 7-1 score late in the game when they began to rally offensively with quality At-Bats showing tremendous patience while getting some timely big hits to get right back in the game. The Mud Hens then took an 8-7 lead until the bottom of the 6th the Mustangs tied it up 8-8 after two dramatic put outs at home plate to send the game in to extra innings. Unfortunately, the game was called because of time. The Mud Hens showed enormous courage and heart battling this team until the final out. This game no doubt will be a turning point for the team as they then went on the beat the #1 Ranked 11U Team in the Nation (So Cal Red Wings) 7-1 in our last game of the tournament.
GREAT JOB Mud Hens!
We’re all very proud of you.
